Sweating is a natural bodily function to regulate body temperature. It happens to everyone, but there are people who sweat too much. They sweat so much, it becomes embarrassing and a deterrent to their social functions and daily tasks.

Imagine driving with a sweaty palm. Not just a normally sweaty palm but it is so sweaty you cannot grip the steering wheel properly. How about going on a date with a wet patch on your shirt on your underarm area?

Greeting a business contact with wet hands? Having to bring extra shirts or tops to change into during the day? How about needing a few showers within a day because you sweat so much you begin to smell bad. Sweating is natural, but when there is too much of it, it just makes one wonder if it is still natural.
People who sweat excessively, or those who experience hyperhidrosis, wonder time and again what causes their predicament.

There are different types of hyperhidrosis and what causes them. There is primary hyperhidrosis, which starts on or before adolescence. Then there is secondary hyperhidrosis, which can occur at any age. Both types of hyperhidrosis are classified into several more types, based on their area of effect, which are: palmar hyperhidrosis (hands and arms, axillary hyperhidrosis (underarms), facial hyperhidrosis (face), and plantar hyperhidrosis (feet).

Secondary hyperhidrosis, on the other hand, may be caused by a thyroid or pituitary gland disorder. Other causes are as follows:

Gout – also known as metabolic arthritis. It is caused by too much uric acid in the body.

Diabetes mellitus – a disorder characterized by metabolic disorder and hyperglycemia.

Menopause – natural permanent absence of menstruation.

Tumors – unnatural swelling/enlargement of the flesh.

Drugs – Some drugs have side effects that cause excessive sweating.

Mercury poisoning – a disorder caused by being exposed to mercury or its toxic compounds.

Primary hyperhidrosis has no definite cause, though it is speculated to be genetic. There is also a theory that it is caused by hyperactivity of the sympathetic nervous system (becomes more active during stressful situations), but this increase in activity may be caused by abnormal brain functions.

Anxiety is a common cause for many people who suffer from hyperhidrosis. Normally, a person starts to sweat when nervous. For those who sweat excessively and are aware of it, they get even more nervous because they start to sweat, and they sweat more because they get more nervous.

What a person eats can also cause excessive sweating. Spicy food is one example. Nicotine and caffeine intake also cause hyperhidrosis.
Whatever the reasons are for excessive sweating, it is undeniable that it has negative effects on those who suffer from it.

Personal relationships and simple tasks are affected. A person’s self-perception also takes a beating, and self-esteem is on an all-time low. If you are one of the many people (Yes, you’re not the only one!) who experience this condition, the best advice for you is to consult a doctor to treat your hyperhidrosis.

Do you want to cure Hyperhidrosis and your sweating problem for good? Exactly how can you cure sweating, you might wonder? Well you have come to the right place.

Hyperhidrosis, the medical term for too much sweating, is not a rare condition. It is a commonly occurring condition, whether it is caused naturally or genetically, or brought upon by another disorder’s side effect.

In the United States alone, nearly 8 million people suffer from primary hyperhidrosis. Primary hyperhidrosis occurs during the onset or even before adolescence, and there is no known cause that is defined by doctors. Though there are speculations that it is also handed down through genes, there is no scientific study done on it to be genuine. There are also doctors who believe that it is caused by a disorder in the nervous system, though it might just be caused by another type of disorder, classifying it as a secondary hyperhidrosis.

Secondary hyperhidrosis, unlike primary hyperhidrosis, occurs at any person’s age. Children and people in their thirties or older have the same chances of having this condition. Also, unlike primary hyperhidrosis, this type of hyperhidrosis has definite causes. It is basically caused by other disorders that are already present in the body.

Disorders such as diabetes milletus, which is identified by a metabolic disorder and hyperglycemia; gout, which is an excess of uric acid levels in the body; and tumors, which is the abnormal swelling of skin or flesh, are only a few ailments that, in turn, cause excessive sweating. Menopause, when a woman’s body physiologically stops having monthly periods permanently, can also cause hyperhidrosis. It can be cured.

There are many people with hyperhidrosis, but not all of them are aware about the treatments available that are given by doctors. It may be assumed that people with this condition are really embarrassed by this and thus seek solutions on their own.

All types of hyperhidrosis, whether they occur on the face (facial hyperhidrosis), hands (palmar hyperhidrosis), underarms (axillary hyperhidrosis), feet (plantar hyperhidrosis), or all over the body (general hyperhidrosis), will benefit from the professional help of doctors. Cure your hyperhidrosis now.

The most common option for people who experience hyperhidrosis, especially axillary hyperhidrosis or excessive underarm sweating, is to apply over-the-counter antiperspirants. This may be effective on cases that are not severe, but for worse cases, prescription antiperspirants are better, because these contain aluminum chloride hexahydrate.

Upon consulting a doctor, anticholinergics may be prescribed. This is an oral medication that decreases sweating. If this is ineffective, especially for excessive underarm sweating, injecting botulinum toxin or Botox will do the trick. This is more effective in treating axillary hyperhidrosis than surgery.

Speaking of surgery, it is the last option available. Surgery to treat palma hyperhidrosis, or excessive hand sweating, is called cervical sympathectomy, while lumbar sympathectomy is the name of the procedure to treat plantar hyperhidrosis, or excessive feet sweating. Curing hyperhidrosis will be such a relief.

The food that you eat and the substances that you take into your body can also affect sweat. Spicy food and caffeinated drinks may aggravate hyperhidrosis, while smoking has a similar effect. Making changes on your diet and lifestyle by avoiding foods, drinks, and substances that make sweating even worse will help in controlling excessive sweating.
