If The Feet Stink – What is the best treatment for sweaty feet?

Imagine this situation: you just finished working out in a gym and you’re ready to take a shower and cool-off. You go to the locker and just as you open the door, a pungent smell greets you. You might be one of the victims of this situation, not just in the gym, but in other places where there are feet exposed. Why, maybe in your own home! So why do feet stink?

Feet sweat is most of the time associated with men, because they wear a lot of closed footwear. But women can also have sweaty feet. A study showed that people who have sweaty hands are most likely to have sweaty feet as well. At first, this may not be a problem. But as days, weeks, and months go on, sweat develops odor. This is because the sweat on the feet that is enclosed in shoes contains bacteria that when they multiply they release isovaleric acid, which causes the strong smell.

There are different causes of feet sweat. It could be that the feet are already stressed, either from long walks or from standing all day. Another reason is the weather. Hot weather can make feet sweat even more. For teenagers experiencing puberty, sweaty feet can be a result of the changing hormones in the body. It could also be in the kind of footwear that you have.

The shoes could actually be the major reason why feet sweat and eventually stink. If you are fond of wearing sneakers, make sure you wash them regularly. Shoes that are made of synthetic materials or socks of low quality could be another reason. Make sure that the shoes you buy at least allow the feet to breath, same goes with the socks. Don’t wear the same shoes everyday. Do you have the problem with excessive foot sweating? Many people have that problem, and are wondering if there is a cure for it, or what is the best possbile treatment for feet sweating.

Allow them to dry 2-3 days before you wear them again. Cotton socks are not recommended. Instead, buy those that are 60-70% wool combined with 40-30% man-made fiber. Socks absorb all the sweat in your feet so it’s best to use the ones that let your feet breath. Never use a pair of socks more than once. Wear a fresh pair everyday.

Feet sweat can eventually lead to feet that smell bad. Having smelly feet can be very embarrassing, especially in situations when you need to take off your shoes. It basically starts with hygiene, a good one at that. Wash your feet regularly and dry them properly before putting on your shoes.

If you really can’t solve it through changing your socks or shoes, there are lotions, powders, and ointments in the market that help prevent your feet from sweating. Make sure though, that you use them regularly. If you are skeptical about these products, seek out professional and medical help immediately.

It’s never too late to deal with and cure this kind of body problem, so the next time you have to show off those feet, you won’t get nasty stares or worse, people run away! Remember that looking good does not only show with what you wear but in how you take good care of yourself as well.
